Websites Prove Advantageous for UK Tradespeople

The .uk domain operator Nominet has released a report this week which illustrates that establishing a website can prove advantageous for UK-based tradespeople. Turner Little comments.

Engaging online

A website should serve as the foundation of your online outreach strategy. With a website, you can supply potential consumers with a comprehensive portal where they can find all the necessary details e.g. opening hours, to engage with your firm, allowing you to generate custom. A survey carried out by Nominet, the .uk domain operator, indicates that this has proven particularly successful for British tradespeople.

Successful strategy

Small Business notes that the tradespeople who have their own website benefitted from an additional 21 jobs every year, allowing them to net an average £16,590 in additional revenue. The poll suggested that websites allows 39% of tradespeople to secure work outside of their main area and 36% of respondents to attract clients with high budgets.

The research’s results were also broken down by region. 74% of respondents possessed their own website, with Glasgow having the highest proportion of digitally-capable tradespeople. Bristol and London followed, at 72% and 71% respectively. However, only 47% of Leeds-based tradespeople are taking their companies online, limiting their ability to secure new business.

Great first impression

The poll found that 334,600 (35%) of these workers have yet to create their own business portal. Discussing the study Russell Haworth, the CEO of Nominet, argued that transitioning from ‘on site’ to ‘website’ is providing a monetary boost to tradespeople across the UK.

Elaborating, the Nominet CEO said: “With more of us going online to look for trade services, many plumbers and painters might find themselves losing out on business when consumers need expert help in a hurry… From displaying pictures of past jobs, to customer testimonials and accreditation badges, a website isn’t just your online CV, it’s your chance to make a great first impression.”
